According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, the Washington Capitals are mulling over the idea of taking Sheldon Souray of the Edmonton Oilers' hands. But the Capitals aren't the only ones interested in the veteran defenseman; the Columbus Blue Jackets and Anaheim Ducks are reportedly somewhat sweet on Souray as well.
All three teams can afford Souray, if he's available on re-entry waivers at half the $5.4-million cap hit for two seasons.
On paper, the Ducks need the offensive defenseman the most. Lubomir Visnovsky is shouldering too much responsibility on that front and could use the help. Whereas, with Mike Green and young John Carlson on the roster, the Caps don't have the same need.
